This design is based on my experience in the Netherlands. De Stijl, a Dutch art movement from the early 1900’s, is a big source of inspiration for me. While I prefer simplicity, structure, and the color grey . . . there is something about bold colors and abstraction that fascinates me.
I think it is possible to bridge the gap between structure and abstraction. This poster attempts to do that, while complimenting the Dutch bike culture and the influence of Design in the Netherlands.
Printing posters give me a chance get away from the computer screen and get my hands dirty. I love being immersed in every aspect of the design process, from the initial idea to the final print. It makes the final product feel so genuine.
While I am not currently an avid rider, the experience in Amsterdam has changed my perspective on cycling. The Netherlands is great example of how the simple act of riding a bike can have a drastic impact on a society. Oh, and 'fiets' is the Dutch word for 'bike'!
